The mission of the Ranchers Horse Sale is to provide premium bridle horses, broke ranch horses, and well-started colts for sale. Each year, we offer 35 head of stock horses trained in genuine cattle work on the high desert of Eastern Oregon.

On the day of the sale, each horse is previewed in a true-to-life calf branding. The seller demonstrates the horses’ ability in the traditional ranch roping. The consignors are horsemen with an honest reputation for telling prospective buyers the positive as well as the negative trait of each horse. These have been used on ranches, making them well-rounded horses to be used in cattle work, performance events such as roping, cutting, team penning, trail riding, and numerous other performance events and general ranch work.

We now have added the Young Ranchers Colt Starting Clinic as a way to pass on traditions and skillsets to the next generation and offer a selection of younger horses to buyers.m Learn More Here.

With the highest regard for integrity in mind, the Ranchers Horse Sale’s goal is to produce a supply of clean-minded horses, match the right horse to the right buyer, and provide a community event that reflects our heritage.

Sale History

The Ranchers Horse Sale was founded in 1993 by partners Mike and Linda Bentz, Jim and Alicia Bentz, and Dick and Hoot Raney with the mission to provide broke ranch horses. From the very beginning, the sale was based on the concept of integrity and honesty.

It was originally hosted in Burns, OR under the name “Harney County Ranchers Horse Sale”.

Over time, the partnerships evolved, and today, the Bentz family continues on with the sale. The shared vision of the original founders is the core values we hold today.

Our Consignors

Our consignors are some of the best horsemen and women in the Great Basin. Each one has been invited or has been coming for years based on their integrity and quality of product they produce.

Representing each horse with complete honesty is the foundation of our sale. Our consignors live up to this standard, telling buyers about both the positive and possible negative traits of their horse.

Our goal is to match the right horse to the right buyer. These men and women help do just that.
